Birthday Presents and Vintage Fabrics

Hi again,

Well my hand is doing really well I'm so shocked by the lack of discomfort and very happy about that so back into the sewing room this afternoon, Yay.

I have to show you these gorgeous vintage fabrics I found at my local Op shop yesterday I was so excited.  They're only small pieces but at 50c each I was extremely happy.


























How adorable is the little girl with her puppy!?  An I just love Mickey Mouse and his friends, these will have to be put away until I find something suitably Kitch to make for them.

Recently I made some pressies for my Sisters for their birthdays (they are a week apart in date).  SO after racking my brain to come up with ideas, I decided to make a shoe bag for Miss J who is really enjoying going jogging.  That way if her sneakers get muddy she can keep the car, or her gym bag clean.  I used a vintage fabric, it's so colourful and happy and a kiddies raincoat to line it to make it waterproof.  I really love the finished look.

I based the pattern on the tutorial from threebears.  I enlarged it (quite a bit) and added the lining, and from the feedback from Miss J she is very happy with the result, yay.  I always hold my breath a bit when I send a present off, you know, what if they don't like it as much as I do? so it's always a thrill to get positive feedback.

For Miss M's birthday I found this tutorial for a clutch purse and just knew it would look great in the Amy Butler soul blossom fabric I had (deepwater, temple doors).  I lined it with some bright pink candy striped fabric I had from spotlight.  I felt like it needed something more so I used dognamedbanjo's pattern for an Iphone pouch and wola a lovely little gift set.

I love the way these turned out, and happily so did Miss M, more positive feedback Yay!!

It's so much fun making presents for people you love and so much relief when they love them to ;).

Now I'm off to get stuck into my project for the Feather Your Nest sew along/competition.

OUCH!! Burnies

Well there was a bit of drama here at the N household last night.  It all started out quietly enough, I had finished crumbing some lovely fresh Baramundi our Neighbours had given us, now it was time to cook them.  Well as put the final fillet into the oil this huge wave of oil just leaped out of the fry pan and over the heel of my palm ouchie mama!!  I got it straight under some water but it blistered straight away, and then I started feeling a bit woozy.  Poor Mr N couldn't drive so we called up the ambulance to see if they could come and have a look at it for me.  20 minutes later and the ambulance officers arrived and after consulting a doctor at the hospital everything looked OK.  I just needed to keep cooling it down then cover it in silversene, bandage it up and go visit the hospital in the next couple of days to get it redressed.  We haven't had that many people in our house in ages ;).

I had planned on showing you what I made for my sisters' birthdays, they're only a week apart, I'll save that for tomorrow I think.

Fat quarter Purse

Wow what a busy day yesterday, the weather was so fantastic I think it empowered me to just get on with it :)
I managed to get most of my Fat quarter purse by we wilson done , I don't have any d-rings on hand so the strap is just pinned on. The fabric is French Riviera by Art Gallery Fabrics, I bought it at Spotlight ages ago and it looks great as a bag.

I think when I make this again I'll make a longer strap, this means I'll need more than a fat quarter but the strap is too short at the moment to be an adjustable strap.  I love how the flower came out right in the centre of the bag, and no fussy cutting, the pattern doesn't have much room to spare so it was just pure luck.

As well as getting my bag sewed up I was also able to get in the garden and cut back some of the gingers and transfer our sick hibiscus.  It was so lovely and cool in the afternoon and just such a buzz to be able to do so much in one day.  This time last year I was struggling to spend more than 30 mins in front of the computer let alone sewing and gardening, it just lifts my spirits and puts a big ol smile on my face.

Hello there

Hi there,

Well this is all new to me, I've been loving checking out everyone elses blogs I figured it's time for me to give it a try.

I've recently discovered a love for sewing and giving.  I love sewing gorgeuous cute things and giving them away.  My technique is pretty ho hum at them moment but it's come a long way in such a short time.  I'm dreaming of setting up a stall at the local markets and have ordered a huge stash of fabrics from hawthornethreads and can't wait till they arrive, a mix of Lizzy House and Patty Young's designs.

Not too long ago I made some gifts for a friend and a cousin who'd just had bubs and I thought I'd share some photos of them they are from this tutorial at the seasonedhomemaker blog.

I love this gift set soooo cute.

Well that's it short and sweet for my first entry, I promise to give more details and more photos as I get the hang of this.

Lemon Butter and Merigues....mmmmmmmm yummmmm

What have you been up to this weekend?

Well I spent Saturday making lemon butter from the lemons off out neighbours tree.  It overhangs the fence and it is just full of lemons at the moment so after (quite) a few pleads from my other half to make some lemon butter I finally got around to it.  I was left with all these egg whites though, and what better to make from egg whites than yummy meringues!!  So I whipped the whites into a frenzy an wola lemon butter and meringues.

Unfortunately I didn't realise the effect that humidity has on meringues, so while they came out of the oven all lovely and crispy within minutes they are like toffee, still yummy though ;)

The weather here is just gorgeous at the moment, if I was anywhere else in the world I'd swear it was spring, the sun's shining, the bird's are singing and there are blossoms everywhere, you can't help but have a smile on you face :), I hope you're enjoying your day where ever you are.

I'm going to be spending a good part of the day trying out a new pattern I got from wewilsons.blogspot.com.au for a purse from a fat quarter.  I love the shape so I hope I can get it to all come together.  Hopefully I'll be able to show you some pictures tomorrow.
